RN Clinical - Arcadia - Infusion - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

About the role

The Infusion Registered Nurse provides therapeutic care to patients in the outpatient setting, focusing on administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other therapeutic IV infusions and injections. This role requires the ability to coordinate patient care and educate both the patient and family in a compassionate and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills policies and procedures: Accesses online manuals and references as needed.
• Completes nursing assessment and screening upon patient arrival to receive therapy.
• Interprets assessment information and formulates nursing diagnoses.
• Maintains a problem list, medication list, and allergies list.
• Administers medications as ordered safely and efficiently, using appropriate precautions.
• Administers chemotherapy and biotherapy following correct procedures.
• Delegates tasks based on others' scopes of practice and competency.
• Acts as a patient advocate by intervening for effective management of side effects.
• Documents assessments and screenings at each appointment, including pain scales and reviews of potential side effects.
• Safeguards patient consent for all invasive procedures and the administration of blood products.
• Ensures medication is double-checked and documented accurately.
• Provides patient and family education based on the treatment plan or changes in condition.
• Maintains B/P machines, IV infusion pumps, continuous patient monitors, and ensures proper functioning of equipment alarms.
• Notifies appropriate departments about defective equipment.
• Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and family.
• Reports urgent patient care situations to the inpatient area or department.
• Effectively interacts with patients and families.
• Trips calls appropriately and utilizes email systems.
• Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for clear communication.
• Manages time effectively, prioritizing responsibilities and taking meal breaks without incurring overtime.
• Observes regulatory agency requirements, including but not limited to: using two patient identifiers, avoiding unapproved abbreviations, performing procedural time outs, communicating between providers, completing medication reconciliations, maintaining audible alarms, hazardous waste management, biohazard, medication, sharps, chemotherapy, HIPPA, OSHA requirements, critical values documentation, and dictating orders validation.
• Participates in data collection and process improvements for quality measures.
• Engages in professional development through participation in hospital/nursing activities, committees, educational workshops, and membership in relevant organizations.
• Accepts and completes additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required upon hire. AA Degree in Nursing accepted in lieu of BSN Degree if hired prior to March 2021.
• Two years of RN experience in a related healthcare setting.
• Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, and ability to understand, follow, and perform duties, including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing or related field, or in progress.
• Oncology focus experience strongly preferred.
• Experience administering chemotherapy and/or other types of infusions.
• Specialty certification in oncology.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
• ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy certification if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 90 days of meeting eligibility criteria.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) if no card upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
• Specialty certification in oncology.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 – $87.45.
