Responsibilities

  • Fulfills the role as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients and their families in the outpatient setting with an emphasis on administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood products.
  • Manages patients requiring acute care either prior to or instead of admitting the patient.
  • Travels to various treatment centers for coverage and volume needs, learning workflows from each location and providing support across all locations.
  • Follows policies and procedures, demonstrating ability to access online manuals and references.
  • Completes nursing assessments and screenings upon patient arrival, interpreting assessment information and formulating nursing diagnoses.
  • Maintains problem lists, medication lists, and allergies lists.
  • Administers medications, chemotherapy, and biotherapy safely and efficiently, delegating tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency.
  • Documents all forms accurately and ensures medication is double-checked and documented fully and correctly.
  • Provides patient and family education as needed based on treatment plans or changes in condition.
  • Maintains and operates equipment such as B/P machines, IV infusion pumps, and monitors volume of equipment alarms.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and family, through appropriate patient/family interactions, effective triaging of phone calls, and utilizing SBAR.
  • Observes regulatory agency requirements, ensuring compliance with standards such as National Patient Safety Goals, HIPAA, OSHA, and JCAHO.
  • Participates in professional development activities and assists in the development or updating of patient education materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required upon hire.
  • Two years of experience in a related healthcare setting.
  • Reliable means of transportation to travel to various locations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow, and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field, or in progress.
  • Oncology focus experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience giving chemotherapy and/or other types of infusions.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy certification if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 90 days of meeting eligibility criteria.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only).
  • Driver's License (CA DMV).
  • Certified - Job Relevant Current/active Auto Insurance policy.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $55.12 - $90.95.

Schedule

This position is full-time, 8-hour days (non-exempt).
