About the role

Keck Medicine of USC is a community dedicated to enhancing healthcare through collaborative, supportive, and therapeutic environments. This role is integral to the interdisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals.
  • Completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and with changes in condition.
  • Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses.
  • Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions, documenting expected/projected patient outcomes.
  • Administers medication and IV therapy correctly, completing patient care procedures at prescribed intervals.
  • Delegates tasks based on others' scopes of practice and competencies, acts as a patient advocate, manages restraint use per policy, and ensures MD orders, assessments, and monitoring are completed.
  • Documents all flow sheets and chart forms accurately, ensuring orders are transcribed and signed off.
  • Provides patient/family education as needed, including room/unit orientation and Plan of Care identification.
  • Collaborates with Case Managers and physicians for discharge planning, ensuring all transfer paperwork is completed, and belongings are sent with the patient.
  • Utilizes patient care equipment appropriately and safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including patient and family, and maintains regulatory agency requirements.
  • Manages time effectively, prioritizing responsibilities, and takes meal breaks without incurring overtime.
  • Manages high acuity patients requiring specialized monitoring and care, and manages advanced therapeutic modalities.
  • Engages psychiatric patients in therapeutic interactions, maintains a therapeutic milieu, and monitors for patient safety.
  • Demonstrates de-escalation techniques and applies behavioral restraint/seclusion when necessary, ensuring physician assessments and notifying managers.
  • Participates in professional hospital/nursing activities, professional certifications, and quality measures.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), 1 year acute inpatient hospital experience in the United States, excellent communication skills, knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, and ability to work independently.
  • Preferred: Surgical Units: ICU and Telemetry experience, Specialty Certification.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) from CA Board of Registered Nursing, Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association, Fire Life Safety Training (LA City), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.

The hourly rate range for this position is $45.76 - $98.80.
