About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports nursing staff in delivering patient care, performing clerical tasks, maintaining the unit environment, and managing equipment. This role emphasizes patient satisfaction, safety, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient calls within 10 minutes and anticipates patient needs.
• Makes rounds to reduce patient calls and maintains positive interactions with patients and visitors.
• Smiles and is pleasant during all interactions, providing necessary data and implementing interventions based on the patient's plan of care.
• Performs essential skills contributing to positive patient outcomes, including vital signs, weight, and hygiene tasks.
• Ambulates patients, ensuring they are turned every two hours and transferred safely.
• Provides fresh water and documents all care provided, including vital signs, intake and output, meal percentages, equipment used, and patient care.
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and RNs, reporting significant changes in patient condition and refusing care.
• Ensures a safe and organized environment, adhering to regulatory standards and maintaining confidentiality.
• Collaborates with RNs to ensure patient care and data collection.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Program.
• One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the Department of Public Health.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training certification from the Los Angeles City.
