RN, Children's Hospital - Woman's and Children's Float Pool - Full-time

Registered professional nurse responsible for the practice of nursing according to the rules and regulations defined by the state's Nurse Practice Act, Erlanger's Models of Care/Practice, policies, and procedures. The nurse delivers patient care as assigned, supervises qualified staff, and coordinates the plan of care with other healthcare professionals to address physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational needs of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes hand-off communication and bedside shift report to effectively communicate with the healthcare team.
• Maintains a safe therapeutic environment by complying with hospital policies/procedures and identifying risks.
• Performs and documents comprehensive, holistic assessments and responds to abnormal diagnostic data.
• Anticipates potential emergency situations and intervenes safely.
• Develops a relationship with patient/family to facilitate mutual involvement in care planning.
• Demonstrates basic critical thinking skills and documents care concisely, accurately, and completely.
• Completes population-specific mandatory education competencies as defined by unit scope of service.
• Provides culturally competent care and demonstrates awareness of evidence-based practice.
• Manages time effectively, meets punctuality expectations, and demonstrates scheduling flexibility.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Implements the plan of care and identifies resources to meet patient needs.
• Communicates changes in patient conditions that may impact staffing or safe care.
• Contributes to a healthy work environment through professional behavior and conflict resolution.
• Completes hospital and unit-based competencies and mandatory education programs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and contributes to unit-based performance improvement outcomes.

Requirements

• Current licensure privileges to practice nursing in the state of employment.
• BLS certification completed prior to unit assignment and maintained.
• PALS (if applicable), ACLS, and maintenance of both certifications.
• NRP/STABLE certification within 6 months of start date.
• De-escalation training (e.g., MOAB) within 6 months and maintained.
• Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience:
  • Required: Minimum two years of experience in a similar care setting, enabling independent work in all Women’s services areas (L&D, HRPU, MBU, GYN ONC) and at least one area of Children’s Hospital (CHED, PICU, NICU, or Acute Care).
  • Preferred: Prior experience in the L&D setting.
• Certification:
  • Preferred: Certification in inpatient obstetrics or Women’s health field, to be obtained within one year of eligibility.
