Job Description Summary
The Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Coordinator is a hybrid role that combines advanced clinical expertise with administrative responsibilities for the MCS Department. This role involves coordinating comprehensive, specialized care for advanced heart failure patients who are candidates for MCS therapy, managing postoperative care for those implanted with MCS, and overseeing ongoing outpatient management of those with MCS in place. The MCS Coordinator reports to the MCS Program Manager and plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal patient care and departmental goals.
About the Role
The MCS Coordinator assists in coordinating the care of mechanical circulatory support patients, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization. They provide coverage 24/7, 365 days/year, assisting with leadership presence and patient/staff support. The MCS clinician uses current protocols to assist in medical care and maintains accurate data for research purposes.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate comprehensive, specialized care for advanced heart failure patients who are candidates for MCS therapy.
- Manage postoperative care for those implanted with MCS.
- Ongoing outpatient management of patients with MCS in place.
- Aid in the research process by maintaining accurate data.
- Assist in the medical care of patients using current protocols.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization.
- Provide leadership presence and patient/staff support by covering 24/7, 365 days/year.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of three years related clinical nursing work experience.
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA) preferred.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
Qualifications
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors/outdoors, reaching overhead, performing repetitive motions, lifting up to 50 lbs., and maintaining vision, hearing, and tactile sensory functions.
