About the Role
Provide care to adult or pediatric/congenital patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures in the Operating Room, assisting the team in maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and serving as the patient’s advocate during the intraoperative phase of care.
Responsibilities
- Maintains storage and retrieval systems for all records.
- Maintains clinical competency in all aspects of cardiac OR and provides direct patient care as needed.
- Conducts pre- and post-operative education.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform all functions required after hours in emergency procedures.
- Travels outside the OR suite and to other facilities to assist with placing adult/pediatric patients on ECMO or other mechanical assist devices.
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
- Assesses and manages critically ill patients with complex heart disease throughout the procedures.
- Provides age and developmental appropriate care to adult/pediatric patients.
- Performs circulating functions including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during, and after procedure.
- Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.

Requirements
- Accredited Program: Nursing (Required)
- BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
- Registered Nurse Compact License or Florida RN License
- Minimum of one (1) year RN experience required
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Must be able to handle emergency crises and unpredictable situations
- Must take call and work irregular hours as needed
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of recent RN experience
- One (1) year of Cardiovascular operating room experience
- BSN degree
- National Certification in area of clinical specialty
