River Steward (Seasonal)

About the role

River Stewards are hired to effectively communicate with the public to ensure the safety of those fishing and enjoying the river.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with the public to enforce public safety regulations on the Oswego River at the Varick Dam.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including hot and inclement weather.
• Ensure compliance with specific rules and regulations related to public safety on the Oswego River.
• Perform duties independently as directed by a supervisor.

Requirements

• Well-organized and enthusiastic about working with the public.
• Able to effectively communicate in person.
• Capable of performing duties independently as directed by a supervisor.
• Eager to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Have strong attention to detail.
• Be able to walk on a variety of surfaces (inclines and unsteady terrain).
• Stand for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.
• Be comfortable speaking with the general public and enforcing public safety regulations.
• Have general angling knowledge (preferred but not required).

Qualifications

• Live within a reasonable commuting distance to the Oswego River Varick Hydropower Dam facility.
• Background or desire working in the outdoors.
• Ability to work in all types of weather (hot and inclement).
• Possess the ability to learn specific rules and regulations as related to public safety on the Oswego River.
• Ability to commit to a (5) month contract.
• Ability to work days, weekends, & Holidays.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
• Ability to effectively communicate in all types of situations while maintaining composure.

Skills

• General angling knowledge (preferred but not required).

Benefits

Seasonal position ending November 28th. Training and orientation will be provided.

Pay

$20.00/hr.

Days, weekends, & Holidays.
