Risk Manager

David Energy is creating a new kind of power company. We offer cheaper and cleaner energy than traditional Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) by tapping into renewable supply (e.g., solar) and controllable capacity (e.g., batteries), including behind customers’ electricity meters. We’re a Series A company aiming to run the grid on clean energy 24/7/365, rapidly scaling our "Beat the Utility" product that guarantees small commercial customers lower electric spend than their incumbent utility. Currently operating in NYC (NYISO Zone J) with plans to expand across the Northeast, we’re seeking a Risk Manager to lead our risk management function as we enter our next growth phase.

Responsibilities

• Lead David Energy’s risk management strategy and execution
• Create a framework for using controllable capacity (e.g., distributed batteries) for risk management
• Develop a risk reporting framework for daily position tracking (e.g., energy, capacity, RECs, ancillaries)
• Build a world-class risk team as David Energy expands into new markets
• Perform stress case analysis on forward positions and evaluate seasonal hedge strategies
• Establish risk adders for pricing components (e.g., variable load risk, shaping, balancing costs) and maintain forward cost curves

Requirements

• Exceptional ability to communicate clearly and precisely
• 5+ years of work experience in retail energy, energy trading, and energy risk management
• Strong working knowledge of energy markets (e.g., NYISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE)
• Strong data analytics skills
• Mindset for automation and attention to detail
• Ability to deliver in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., physics, mathematics, economics)
• Proficiency in SQL
