RF Design Engineer II
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued DoD Secret security clearance (or ability to obtain an INTERIM clearance prior to start date) is required for this role.
About the role
We have an opportunity for an electrical engineer with a strong academic background and experience in RF design theory, testing, architectures, subsystems, components, and Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs). This onsite position is located at one of our Massachusetts facilities: Andover, Tewksbury, or Marlborough. Location assignments will be made based on business or program need.
Responsibilities
- Design RF microwave components and phased array applications.
- Develop insights in the RF/Microwave field to form the basis of new concepts, theories, and products.
- Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies.
- Integrate and test component-level and system-level phased array hardware.
- Provide technical support to production activities.
- Manage cost and schedule, and contribute to proposal writing and presentations.
- Travel to integration sites, customer, and subcontractor facilities as required.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
- Experience in Microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, and/or test.
- Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys, and Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition or Cadence Virtuoso.
- Experience with analytical tools such as Matlab.
- Experience performing basic RF calculations and cascaded analysis.
Qualifications We Value
- Background designing and testing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, and analog filter design.
- Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission line design.
- Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band.
- Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques.
- Propensity for learning through self-study and comfort in a multi-tasking environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level.
- Experience designing RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules, or test fixtures.
- Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices.
- Experience with integrated circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools.
- Familiarity with semiconductor processing and concepts (e.g., GaAs, GaN, SOI).
- Strong academic background including courses in Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, and Radar Systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques, including spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), and Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs).
- Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering is a plus.

Pay
The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
