About the role

The role involves designing and testing RF microwave components and phased array applications. It also includes developing insights that extend knowledge in the RF/Microwave field and forming the basis of new concepts, theories, and products. Responsibilities include designing and/or testing MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies, integrating and testing component level and system level phased array hardware, and providing technical support to production activities.

Responsibilities

  • Design of RF microwave components and phased array applications
  • Develop insights that extend your knowledge in the RF/Microwave field and form the basis of new concepts, theories, and products
  • Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies
  • Integrate and test component level and system level phased array hardware
  • Provide technical support to production activities
  • Team leadership skills including cost and schedule management plus proposal writing and presentation experience are desired

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Experience in Microwave/RF system, subsystem and/or component analysis, design and/or test
  • Experience with an electromagnetic simulation tool such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys and Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition Cadence Virtuso, and an analytical tool such as Matlab
  • Experience performing basic RF calculations and Cascaded Analysis

Qualifications

  • Background designing and testing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design and analog filter design
  • Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission line design
  • Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band
  • Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques
  • Propensity for learning through self-study and being comfortable in a multi-tasking environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level
  • Experience designing RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules or test fixtures
  • Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices
  • Experience with integrated circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing and concepts, e.g. technologies like GaAs, GaN, SOI
  • Strong academic background that includes courses in: Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory and Radar Systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques, including using spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and Performance Network Analyzer (PNAs)
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR PhD degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus
