RF Design Engineer II

About the Role
RTX, the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, is seeking an electrical engineer with a strong academic background and experience in RF design theory, testing, and Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs). This role involves designing and testing microwave components, cards, and systems, as well as providing technical support to production activities. Leadership in cost/schedule management, proposal writing, and presentations is desired.
Responsibilities
- Design RF microwave components and phased array applications.
- Develop insights in the RF/Microwave field to drive new concepts, theories, and products.
- Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies.
- Integrate and test component-level and system-level phased array hardware.
- Travel to integration sites, customer facilities, and subcontractor locations as required.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (or an Advanced Degree in a related field).
- Experience in Microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, and/or test.
- Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys) and analytical tools (e.g., Matlab).
- Experience performing basic RF calculations and cascaded analysis.
Qualifications We Value
- Background designing and testing analog CCAs (frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, analog filter design).
- Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission line design.
- Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band.
- Knowledge of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques.
- Self-driven learner comfortable in a multi-tasking environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience allocating and flowing down requirements from system to component level.
- Design experience with RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules, or test fixtures.
- Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices.
- Familiarity with integrated circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso.
- Understanding of semiconductor processing (e.g., GaAs, GaN, SOI).
- Strong academic background in Microwave Engineering, Electromagnetic Theory, and Radar Systems.
- Hands-on experience with microwave testing (spectrum analyzers, RSAs, VNAs, PNAs).
- Technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentation experience.
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering (preferred).

Pay
The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD, dependent on experience, location, and other factors.
Schedule
This is a full-time, onsite position. Some travel may be required.
