Retail Ophthalmic Dispensing Trainee

Essential Responsibilities

  • Aid customers with frame and lens selection.
  • Provide accurate product information about frames, lenses, and other services.
  • Inform customers about benefits under third-party insurance and assist with appropriate frame and lens choices.
  • Discuss frames and lens extras and options, and inform customers about additional charges not covered by insurance.
  • Analyze and interpret patients' prescriptions.
  • Sell, fit, and dispense frames and other accessories.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area.
  • Ensure the accuracy of patient pricing.
  • Communicate with the laboratory and optometrist to ensure prescription accuracy.
  • Meet education and experience requirements to become a licensed optician within the state's mandated timeframe.
  • Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures (HIPAA).
  • Participate in training and educational activities as needed.
  • Diligently maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations, and the facility.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as required by changing business needs.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current New York or Massachusetts Apprentice permit to practice.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

HIPAA & Security Requirements

  • All Associates must comply with HIPAA as it pertains to PHI disclosures.
  • Associates must adhere to data security guidelines established within the Company’s Privacy & Security Training Program.

Compensation

  • Competitive pay and benefits.
  • Starting pay may vary based on experience, with a minimum of $20 per hour and a maximum of $30 per hour.
  • Incentive pay, wage upgrades, and overtime opportunities also available.
