About the role

The Chair oversees, administers, teaches, and advises the Respiratory Therapy and Polysomnography program. Responsibilities include developing the annual budget, supervising faculty, and coordinating clinical placements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective leadership and guidance in all areas of the program, including policy and procedure development, accreditation and retention efforts, and building partnerships.
  • Serves as the primary contact for clinical and learning experiences, and maintains optimal enrollment.
  • Ensures program effectiveness through ongoing planning, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Develops and administers academic and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Teaches, supervises, and evaluates students' academic, skill laboratory, clinical, and field performance.
  • Acts as a liaison between students and clinical staff, and provides individual advisement and guidance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Hires, develops, trains, and motivates faculty to ensure optimal performance.
  • Communicates variances to appropriate management and coordinates and supervises faculty, adjunct faculty, and guest speakers.
  • Develops criteria and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization, and assessment.
  • Meets Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as assigned by the Provost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current Iowa license.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for student of such programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development preferred.
  • Course work in instructional methodologies, evaluation, and assessment preferred.
  • Ability to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program (as applicable).
