About the role

The Respiratory Therapy Manager oversees the daily operations of the respiratory therapy department, including staff interviews, employment decisions, orientation, performance evaluations, employee training and development, as well as inventory, equipment and instrument issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation with regard to pulmonary disorders and respiratory therapy practice.
  • Ensures quality respiratory care and the development and routine monitoring of the department.
  • Shares responsibility for employee engagement, recruitment and retention.
  • Implements company standards of care, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all regulatory requirements are met regarding respiratory and point of care.
  • Maintains clinical cost control and creates and maintains clinical schedules for safe staffing.
  • Coordinates and participates in Wean Team/Pulmonary Rounds, and maintains a direct line of communication with pulmonary physicians to facilitate/implement and routinely monitor weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
  • Works toward the implementation of site-specific protocols if they do not exist.
  • Steers progressive clinical excellence through staff development while promoting continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains competency in Rapid Response and code events.
  • Functions as a Moderate Complexity Lab Manager over point of care testing and as the Safety Officer, overseeing the Environment of Care.

Requirements

  • Current State License and Active Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by start date.
  • ACLS within 6 months of employment required.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required, Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an Acute Care setting preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in respiratory therapy.
