About the role
The Respiratory Therapist Vent is a Field Clinician who delivers specialized respiratory care to ventilator dependent patients in home and alternate care settings. This role combines hands-on patient care, education, and collaboration with physicians and care teams to support safe, coordinated, and high-quality outcomes outside the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and apply advanced knowledge of respiratory equipment, ventilators, HME products, and related payer and regulatory guidelines
- Perform clinical assessments and reassessments, including review of ventilator patient records, compliance data, and care plans; communicate findings and recommendations to physicians and referral sources
- Participate in discharge planning and execution for highly technical and ventilator dependent patients, ensuring smooth transitions to the home setting
- Demonstrate and instruct patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on ventilator units, supplies, and proper equipment use
- Provide clinical follow up with physicians and referral sources regarding patient status and tolerance of therapy
- Conduct clinical in-services for hospital staff, referral sources, and other professionals on equipment and clinically related topics
- Adhere to all patient confidentiality, HIPAA, PPE, infection control, and hazardous materials handling requirements
- Accurately and timely document all patient care activities, assessments, procedures, communications, and outcomes in accordance with company standards
- Maintain complete and up to date patient records, including prescriptions, plans of care, treatment plans, delivery tickets, and required checklists
- Ensure documentation supports quality tracking, data trending, reimbursement, authorizations (including ventilator referrals), and regulatory compliance
- Utilize continuing education, in-services, and professional inquiry to maintain and expand role related competencies
- Promote AdaptHealth through program development, operational support, educational coordination, and engagement with referral sources
- Collaborate proactively with peers and interdisciplinary teams to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes
- Ensure accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication related to patient care and operational needs
- Participate in on-call rotation during non-business hours in accordance with company policy
- Complete all required compliance training and adhere to AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associates degree from an AMA-approved respiratory program
- One (1) year of clinical experience as a Nurse with ventilator exposure, Healthcare Respiratory Therapist or HME Respiratory Therapist
- Valid and unrestricted Respiratory Therapist license in all states serviced by the branch
- CPR certification
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license
Physical Requirements
This is a field and in-office role that involves travel. Physical requirements vary by role and can include lifting, bending, standing, and sitting for extended periods.
