Respiratory Therapist - PRN/Per Diem

About the role

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital at Cleveland Clinic is a joint venture with Select Medical. It focuses on providing exceptional and compassionate care to individuals with various medical conditions such as brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, orthopedic issues, amputations, and multiple traumas.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patient and recommends a treatment plan.
• Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge to home.
• Operates various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to the patient.
• Uses various equipment to promote secretion clearance and performs suctioning of the patient using different methods.
• Makes routine reviews of patient's chest x-rays to determine if further evaluation is needed.
• Performs 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Conducts pulmonary function studies according to policy.
• Assists with procedures related to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy, perc trachs, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
• Drains the chest via PleurX catheter or similar device as needed.
• Inserts and removes tracheostomy tubes as per policy.
• Performs arterial puncture and monitors, records, and reports test results.
• Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Inserts and removes endotracheal tubes via free hand technique or video laryngoscope system.
• Records all pertinent information of treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records and patient charts.
• Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians about the effectiveness of therapy administered to the patient.

Requirements

• BLS certification required.
• Current state licensure required.
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Must possess “Active” credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent; RRT preferred.
• One (1) year of related experience preferred.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of respiratory equipment and techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

PRN, 12-hour shifts.

Sign-On Bonus

$2,500 sign-on bonus offered.
