Respiratory Therapist, Nights, StaffFlex contract
About the role
StaffFlex contract, 13 weeks $47.60/hr Full time; 3 - 12hr shifts 7p -7a Open availability, 7 days a week NICU Experience Required
Responsibilities
- Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
- Maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
- Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
- Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
- Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
- Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
- Determines or guides the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
- Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
- Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
- Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.
- Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required.
- Intubations and airway management for all population served [Preferred]
- Ventilator management for all populations served [Preferred]
- Arterial line placements [Preferred]
Qualifications
- Education Associate: Field Of Study Must be a graduate of an approved respiratory care program
- Work Experience: 1+ critical care experience [Preferred]
Skills
- Knowledge of neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations.
- Intubations and airway management for all population served [Preferred]
- Ventilator management for all populations served [Preferred]
- Arterial line placements [Preferred]
