About the role
This is a position for Neonatal / and or Pediatric Experienced Respiratory Therapists that will work at the Children's hospital in Orlando for a 13 week contract on Nightshift (6:45pm to 7:15am shift time).
Responsibilities
- Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
- Maintains and monitors patient care, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
- Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
- Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
- Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
- Determines or guides the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
- Performs mechanical ventilation, ensuring the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
- Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, making or recommending changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.
- Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
- Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
- Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
- Performs intubations and airway management for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient populations.
- Manages ventilator settings for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient populations.
- Placements of arterial lines for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient populations.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS)
- State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Neonatal Med Certification (NEONATAL MED)
- S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved respiratory care program
- 1+ critical care experience
Skills
- Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations
- Intubations and airway management for all population served
- Ventilator management for all populations served
- Arterial line placements
