About the Role

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) assesses, treats, and manages patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary issues by performing diagnostic tests, administering therapies such as oxygen and aerosol medications, monitoring progress, and educating patients on lung care. They collaborate with physicians to develop treatment plans, operate specialized equipment, and provide emergency airway management or resuscitation when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient evaluations and review medical histories.
  • Deliver respiratory therapies and monitor patient responses.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Educate patients on lung health and medication use.
  • Respond to emergencies requiring airway management or resuscitation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in respiratory therapy.
  • CRT or RRT credentials.
  • State and federal licensing requirements.
  • Preferred: at least one year of experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting.

Skills

  • Independent decision-making.
  • Effective communication.
  • Tactful interaction with residents, families, and staff.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Prolonged standing.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushing/pulling heavy objects.
  • Exposure to biological hazards.
  • May require working nights, weekends, or holidays.
