Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective administration of Respiratory Care Procedures as ordered by the physician according to established standards and policies, with special consideration for the age of the patient.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of the pathophysiology of respiratory disease and strong technical skills to match current treatment modalities with disease processes in infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Collaborate closely with medical staff and other health-care professionals.
  • Serve as Charge Therapist in the absence of a supervisor, when appointed by the Director or designee.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Respiratory Therapist License.
  • Minimum Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential by the NBRC; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred.
  • New employees holding only the CRT credential must attain the RRT credential within 18 months of employment.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: AAS or BS degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).

Working Conditions

  • Environmental Demands & Exposure to Hazards: Exposure to infectious patients and potential hazards from handling inflammable and explosive gases. Frequent work in critical-care areas of the Medical Center. Generally works in clean, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas.
  • Physical Demands: Full anatomical range of motion; visual and aural acuity; finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods. Capability to lift up to 10 lbs, bend, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Mental Demands: Foster collaborative relationships; work well under pressure; organize and synthesize new information; prioritize tasks; critical thinking and analytical skills; flexibility; multi-tasking. Ability to maintain detailed attention in an environment with uncontrolled interruptions. Sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May require irregular hours, including evenings or weekends, for operational or community events.

Pay

The hourly compensation range is $42.90–$49.32 for CRT and $47.90–$60.67 for RRT. This range complies with New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements and does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. Final compensation is determined based on factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
