Resource Specialist

Hiring range: $50,000–$55,000

About the role

The Virginia Department of Veteran Services (DVS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the Resource Specialist in the VA Veterans & Family Support (VVFS) department. The Resource Specialist (RS) identifies behavioral health, rehabilitative, and other service needs of service members, veterans, and/or their dependents/family members (SMVF). Based on those identified needs, the RS develops a coordinated services plan, connects individuals with appropriate service providers, offers care coordination support, and monitors for successful resolution of the identified needs. The RS reports to the applicable VVFS Regional Director and duties are directed by the VVFS SOP under the guidance of the Regional Director.

Responsibilities

• Identify behavioral health, rehabilitative, and other service needs of SMVF.
• Develop coordinated services plans for individuals.
• Connect individuals with appropriate service providers.
• Provide care coordination support and assistance.
• Monitor progress toward resolution of identified needs.
• Engage SMVF population, develop professional relationships, and advocate for individuals receiving services.
• Maintain effective inter/intra-agency working relationships.
• Deliver subject matter trainings and public speaking related to the SMVF population.
• Complete all DVS agency and VVFS program training requirements within 6 months of hire.

Requirements

• Knowledge and familiarity with military services, culture, and/or military experience.
• Knowledge and experience in the human services and/or behavioral healthcare field.
• Knowledge of behavioral health and supportive services for veterans, service members, dependents, and caregivers.
• Understanding of human rights, ethical, and legal concerns related to care coordination.
• Knowledge of suicide interventions and mandatory reporting requirements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in public speaking and delivering trainings related to the SMVF population.
• Strong client service skills.
• Proficiency in computers and word processing.
• Excellent organization and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Ability to work in a team model.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment.

Qualifications

• Work experience in the human services and/or behavioral healthcare field required; related field or combination of education, training, or experience may substitute.
• Experience in social work, psychology, human services, education, or an approved field preferred.
• Military/veteran/family-related life or work experience preferred.
• Experience and/or education related to housing programs and services for veterans (e.g., US Department of Veterans Affairs, US Department of Housing and Urban Development) preferred.
• Any combination of education and job experience that leads to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
