About the role

We are seeking a Library Specialist I under general supervision to manage advanced tasks and non-standard workflows for access services. This position involves analyzing patron needs and recommending service improvements or troubleshooting support.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Service Desk Student Supervisor to coordinate student workers and provide support for assignments and training.
  • Solves issues related to missing, damaged, and overdue items to maintain positive relationships with patrons and other libraries.
  • Inventories supplies, equipment, and works with other library staff to submit order requests.
  • Aids library staff and patrons with routine and non-routine questions and refers non-routine questions to the appropriate colleague.
  • Supports a variety of services using standardized workflow procedures and steps, resolving issues based on knowledge and experience.
  • Assists in developing new workflows or enhancing existing ones.
  • Participates in collaborative department projects, lending expertise and completing assigned tasks.
  • Reviews and recommends workflow or service improvements based on relevant statistics.
  • Maintains and improves documentation.
  • Takes on special projects and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, three years of related experience, and additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the following software/applications: Alma, Canvas, OCLC Worldshare, ILLiad, ReShare.
  • Technical skills including Analytical Skills (Intermediate), Coaching and Mentoring (Intermediate), Information Resource Proficiency (Intermediate), Library Expertise (Intermediate), Problem Solving (Intermediate), Process Improvement (Intermediate), Research Assistance (Intermediate), Workflow Management (Intermediate).

Benefits

Starting salary range: $18.20-$33.90 HRLY ($61,213 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
