This job posting is for two 1.0 FTE continuing contract positions for a Library Information Specialist (LIS) beginning with the 2026-27 school year: one at Cedar Way Elementary and one at Mountlake Terrace Elementary. Preference will be given to candidates that currently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. SIOP training and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed SIOP and GLAD training previously. Training will need to be completed within the first two years of employment.

Responsibilities

Instructor responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teaches media literacy lessons so that students develop into effective consumers and producers of ideas and information
  • Teaches digital citizenship lessons and reinforces digital citizenship skills so that students develop into safe, responsible, and ethical users of digital media and tools
  • Plans lessons aligned with AASL standards and/or CCSS/NGSS; ensures students are able to demonstrate mastery
  • Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Actively cultivates a culturally responsive teaching environment that is inviting, safe, inclusive, and collaborative
  • Promotes a vibrant and inclusive school-wide reading culture, guiding students to read for understanding and pleasure

As an Instructional Partner, the LIS will:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
  • Partner with admin and staff to create the specialists' class schedules (Elementary LIS)
  • Use and model (and coach other staff in using) district-supported instructional technology and online resources to improve student engagement and independent learning
  • Maintain familiarity with adopted curricula, scopes and sequences for various content areas, and pacing guides

As a Library Collection Manager, the LIS will:

  • Actively engage in regular collection management processes: annual goal-setting and reflection, materials selection and processing, annual inventory, ongoing weeding, and end-of-year maintenance around missing or lost materials
  • Manage any paraeducator and volunteer support, the library budget, as well as the physical and virtual spaces of the school library
  • Create an inclusive collection that authentically represents and celebrates diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences in accordance with ESD board policy
  • Curate print and digital resources to support school curriculum and empower a culture of inquiry
  • Develop and administer an inviting and effective physical and digital library environment that represents the demographics of the school and meets the needs of the curriculum and instruction

As a Leader, the LIS will:

  • Cultivate community partnerships
  • Lead staff/peer development related to information literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, and instructional technology
  • Work with district staff to communicate key messages and information related to libraries, reading advocacy, instructional technology and digital tools, and digital citizenship and media literacy
  • Advocate for and ensure equitable access to resources, technology, and information services for the entire school
  • Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program

Requirements

Valid Washington State Teaching Certification with a Library Media endorsement (must have completed a school library endorsement program), OR Washington State Teaching Certification AND current enrollment in a school library endorsement program with ability to complete program within 1-2 years.

Preferred qualifications include minimum 3 years of successful teaching experience.

Pay

2025-26 Salary Schedule Range: $83,305 through $148,226 (2026-27 Salary Schedule not yet finalized). Placement on this salary schedule is determined by FTE and official documentation verifying Educational Level and Certificated Work Experience and will be prorated for less than a full year and/or FTE.
