About the role

Assists in providing library materials to nonaffiliated requestors. Primary responsibilities are to process requests for returnable and non-returnable items from various sources, meet consortia agreements for prompt service, and direct student assistants in the accomplishment of these responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares daily interlibrary lending requests for printing and searching.
  • Verifies both print and digital requests in local catalog for ownership, circulation status, and location.
  • Retrieves materials from Ellis Library print and digital collections to fulfill requests.
  • Determines location for non-Ellis Library material requests (including specialized libraries, University of Missouri Libraries Depository, and Special Collections) and requests these materials be sent to Ellis Library for shipping.
  • Troubleshoots and triages problems from various requesters – including those from staff within and outside the institution.
  • Ensures all requests are answered promptly in accordance with consortia agreements and best practices for ILL delivery service.
  • Determines appropriate shipping method and prepares books to be shipped to other libraries; prepares mailing labels and charges books through the circulation system.
  • Updates interlibrary lending requests for MU, UM, and MOBIUS libraries using systems such as FOLIO, OpenRS, and ILLiad.
  • Discharges returnable items from other libraries in the circulation system and updates records using ILLiad.
  • Renews books when requested.
  • Records and updates statistics relevant to the unit.
  • Monitors and orders shipping and office supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
  • Some physical stamina required; involves moving materials and related physical actions.
  • Must be able to move fully loaded book trucks (at least 200 lbs.).
  • Must be able to read call numbers on books located on shelves at ground level and up to nine feet in height, including in areas with diminished lighting; ladders and footstools are available.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six months of library experience. Directly related education or training may substitute for experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain issues clearly and resolve problems satisfactorily.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with others.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment, including handling confidential patron information.
  • Competence using computer software and equipment.

Pay

Salary Range: $16 - $16.70/hr

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
