Job Summary

You will provide diverse professional nursing services, delivering quality patient care, regulatory requirements, and nursing scope of practice. You are responsible for collaboratively developing, implementing, and assessing patient care plans. Directly engaging in patient care, utilizing critical thinking to assess, plan, coordinate, and delegate tasks to the patient care team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and assess patient care plans.
• Directly engage in patient care, utilizing critical thinking to assess, plan, coordinate, and delegate tasks to the patient care team.
• Collaborate with the patient care team to deliver quality patient care.
• Educate patients, families, and staff, implementing interventions for optimal outcomes and managing issues in a physician's absence.
• Demonstrate accountability for care quality, with authority to direct care and utilize resources efficiently.
• Adhere to department and hospital policies and procedures, including safety, risk management and regulatory standards.
• Keep abreast of trends, developments and regulatory requirements impacting matters within designated scope of responsibility.
• Administer, oversee and document the administration of medications.
• Assess patient to include physical, psychosocial, cultural, behavioral/emotional, developmental and spiritual needs.
• Gather data relevant for patient care.
• Implement appropriate patient interventions and evaluate outcomes.
• Plan care appropriately based on needs identified during initial and on-going assessments.
• Provide holistic, comprehensive, and professional nursing care to patient within the scope of practice.
• Prepare patient for discharge and assist with coordinating post-discharge needs.
• Administer, oversee and document the administration of medications (e.g., topically, orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously and intravenously) as ordered by the healthcare practitioner and in accordance with hospital policy.
• Receive and assure appropriateness, accuracy, timeliness and execution of physician orders.
• Identify opportunities for, and participate in, performance/quality improvement activities to improve clinical outcomes, healthcare delivery systems and address patient safety/satisfaction and cost containment.
• Incorporate critical thinking into daily practice as demonstrated by quality of care provided, transfer of knowledge, follow through and patient outcomes.
• Lead, coordinate, and communicate the ongoing delivery of patient care services provided by members of assigned patient care teams(s).
• Absorb and adjust assignments as necessary; assess and monitor team performance to ensure the quality of care provided is consistent with the FHS standards and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate nursing care and advocate for patient needs so that all appropriate disciplines are informed of and participating in the plan of care.
• Prepare patient for examination/procedure.
• Routinely explain delays.
• Assess, monitor, and intervene as indicated during and post examination or procedure.
• Provide health care education and guidance to patient and/or families.
• Educate regarding results, findings and diagnoses to patient and/or patient’s family within scope of practice.
• Act as a role model, demonstrating technical/clinical competence consistent with the needs of staff and the patient population served.

• Supports and promotes initiatives of service recovery and assures communication for appropriate follow up.
• Promote/support the development of team building in the unit and other department/disciplines.
• Serve as a resource to the more novice clinician.
• Ensure appropriate clinical monitoring/resources are provided for patients who require off-floor procedures/treatment in their defined area.
• Respond to all emergent codes including Rapid Response and Code Blue/Code Neuro.

Requirements

• Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Required: Registered Nurse: WA, upon hire.
• Preferred: Bachelors Of Science Nursing and One year of related work experience in an acute care setting, upon hire.
• Preferred: Charge or resource nurse experience within the last three years.
• Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, upon hire.
• Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support, upon hire.
