Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing staff education, real-time coaching, and support related to nursing practice, documentation, patient safety and workflow expectations.
- Aid in training of new employees and provide competency reinforcement as needed.
- Maintain monitoring of staff performance and communicate concerns regarding policy violations, patient safety risks, professionalism, attendance, or clinical practice to nursing leadership.
- Mentor and support nursing staff, mental health technicians to promote a positive and therapeutic treatment environment.
- Monitor unit operations and communicate concerns to leadership promptly.
- Provide direct patient care as needed throughout the facility.
- Assist nursing staff during high-acuity situations, emergencies, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Support unit staffing needs and help maintain appropriate patient care coverage.
- Perform nursing assessments, reassessments, and documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
- Respond to behavioral emergencies, medical emergencies, and crisis situations using de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques.
- Assist with patient searches, safety precautions, and implementation of physician orders.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care needs.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Absorb patient placement and bed board management.
- Participate in shift reports, staffing huddles, and incident follow-up when applicable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Current unencumbered RN license by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
- Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures.
- Current and timely renewal of BLS for healthcare providers required.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; psychiatric, behavioral health, detox, emergency, or acute care experience.
- Prior experience in nursing leadership strongly preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
