About the Organization

Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Our mission is to use the power of sport and play to empower Chicago’s youth to achieve academic success, develop social-emotional skills, and build social capital. Currently, we serve an estimated 85 schools throughout the City of Chicago.

About the Role

The Resource Coordinator is responsible for managing and expanding out-of-school-time programming for the Community Schools Initiative (CSI), a nationally recognized and federally funded program in Chicago. CSI utilizes a year-round approach to impact youth, families, and the broader community with comprehensive support in out-of-school time.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing schedule for out-of-school-time programming
  • Securing vendors and community partners for implementation
  • Collaborating with school-day teachers to run math and literacy programs
  • Onboarding and training of out-of-school-time staff
  • Recruitment of K-8 grade students for program participation
  • Completion of data entry for attendance and timesheets
  • Supporting programming instruction

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with multiple communication platforms (electronic, verbal, and virtual)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high-quality work
  • Budget management experience
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Experience building relationships and/or recruiting community partners for program implementation
  • Strong time management, administrative, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Superior communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Strong budget management knowledge
  • Strong presentation and group facilitation skills (demonstrated experience preferred)
  • Quick learner and problem solver; experience in managing conflicts
  • Self-directed while balancing multiple tasks within a team-based work environment
  • Ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality work
  • Commitment to interrupting all forms of oppression in the workplace
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for youth
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in underserved neighborhoods
  • Passion for Urban Initiatives’ mission
