About the Role
The Resource Aide provides support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for ensuring the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities, minimizing harmful incidents, and communicating observations or incidents that may impact the well-being of students, staff, or visitors. This position reports to the Principal.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the maintenance of playground areas (e.g., raking wood chips, checking playground equipment, picking up trash) to provide a safe environment.
- Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations to minimize disruptions or injury.
- Maintains files and records (e.g., schedules, guidelines) to ensure availability for future reference and compliance.
- Monitors student behavior in restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, the library, and the cafeteria to ensure compliance with guidelines and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather or convey job-related information.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., incident reports, activity logs, copier count reports) to document activities and provide reference.
- Processes and fulfills copy requests for teachers and staff to support the educational program.
- Provides coverage for other classified staff as needed to maintain smooth service for students and staff.
- Refers incidents (e.g., injuries, altercations, rule violations) to appropriate personnel for follow-up.
- Responds to accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, and alarms to address immediate safety concerns.
- Responds to inquiries about campus security to provide information, direction, or referrals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is desired.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required.
Skills
- Adhering to safety practices and operating standard office equipment, including software applications.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Performing basic math and understanding multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Writing routine documents and speaking clearly, with correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
- Knowledge of safety practices, child guidance, and basic subjects taught in District schools.
- Scheduling activities, collating data, and using job-related equipment.
- Working with diverse individuals and groups, following directions, and communicating effectively with children and adults.
- Supervising and disciplining students according to approved policies and procedures.
- Modeling appropriate social skills and documenting student behavior.
Working Conditions
- Requires significant physical demands, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity.
- Generally involves 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing.
- Performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard-free environment.
