About the Role
The job of Resource Aide is established to support the instructional process with a focus on ensuring the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities. This role aims to minimize harmful incidents and communicate observations or incidents that may impact the well-being of students, staff, or visitors. This position reports to the Principal.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the maintenance of playground areas (e.g., raking wood chips, checking playground equipment, and picking up trash) to provide a safe environment.
- Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations to minimize disruptions or injury.
- Maintains files and records (e.g., schedules, guidelines) to ensure availability for future reference and compliance audits.
- Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, library, cafeteria) to ensure compliance with guidelines and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather or convey information required for job functions.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., incident reports, activity logs, copier count reports) to document activities and provide written reference.
- Processes and fulfills copy requests for teachers and staff to support the educational program.
- Provides coverage for other classified staff members as needed to ensure smooth service to students and staff.
- Refers incidents (e.g., injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations) to appropriate personnel for follow-up.
- Responds to various situations (e.g., accidents, injuries, vandalism, alarms) to address immediate safety or security concerns.
- Responds to inquiries about campus security issues to provide information, direction, or referrals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Skills
- Ability to perform single tasks with potential for skill upgrades to meet changing job conditions.
- Proficiency in adhering to safety practices, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Basic math skills and understanding of written procedures, including writing routine documents and speaking clearly.
- Knowledge of multi-step written and oral instructions, safety practices, child guidance practices, and basic subjects taught in District schools.
- Proficiency in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Ability to schedule activities, collate data, and use job-related equipment.
- Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and groups, and adapt to varied circumstances.
- Problem-solving skills to identify issues and create action plans.
- Ability to communicate with diverse groups, supervise and discipline students, model appropriate social skills, and document student behavior.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions and communicate effectively with children and adults.
Working Conditions
- Requires significant physical demands, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Requires fine finger dexterity.
- Job involves 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing.
- Performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard-free environment.
