About the role

The Y Head Start Resource Aide contributes to the Y's mission by providing classroom or individualized instruction, supporting children with special needs, managing classroom schedules, routines, and transitions, ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of children, and fostering their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide classroom or individualized instruction as needed to support the goals and objectives of the children in your classroom.
  • Support the teacher in managing classroom schedules, routines, and transitions.
  • Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program.
  • Contribute to the creation of an environment which fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in your care.

Requirements

  • An interest in the well-being and education of young children.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, good humor, good judgment, and a good spirit.
  • Prior experience working with special needs children (or willingness to obtain 90 hour child care certification).
  • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates.
  • A high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Obtained your 90 hour child care certification or a willingness to do so upon hire.

Additionally, associates and volunteers must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements to safeguard youth.
