About the role

This role contributes to the Y's mission by providing classroom or individualized instruction to support the goals and objectives of the children in your classroom. You will also support the teacher in managing classroom schedules, routines, and transitions, ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide classroom or individualized instruction as needed.
  • Support children with special needs or individualized plans.
  • Manage classroom schedules, routines, and transitions under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program.
  • Create an environment that fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child.
  • Contribute to the preparation of economically disadvantaged children for success in school and life.

Requirements

  • An interest in the well-being and education of young children.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, good humor, good judgment, and a good spirit.
  • Prior experience working with special needs children (or willingness to obtain such experience).
  • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates.
  • A high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Childcare certification (90 hours or equivalent).
  • Commitment to The Code of Conduct with Youth.
  • Completion of training on child abuse prevention.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Patience and understanding.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of child development stages.
