Residential Technician

About the Role

The Residential Technician coordinates and provides a quality residential environment that delivers optimal support to individuals in a supportive residential recovery home setting. This role involves daily supervision of and interactions with clients, ensuring adherence to treatment plan goals through regular communication with other staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise male-specific residential living quarters across all shifts.
• Work with all patients in clinical settings.
• Adhere to, enforce, and implement agency and program policies and procedures.
• Accurately account for client whereabouts by conducting and documenting facility checks.
• Maintain an active presence in the facility, checking for unsafe conditions and cleanliness.
• Complete scheduled activities, including intakes, urine drug screens, room searches, and emergency drills.
• Supervise daily client activities such as medication administration, work units, therapeutic activities, recreation, visitation, and meal times.
• Intervene to protect clients from harm according to policy.
• Communicate emergencies promptly to co-workers and supervisors.
• Complete required documentation accurately and timely.
• Observe and collect urine specimens in accordance with agency policy.
• Monitor client visitation periods and terminate visitation as necessary.
• Ensure visitors, guests, and personnel sign appropriate documents and follow visitation rules.
• Conduct searches for contraband and document all searches.
• Comply with the agency's medication policy and maintain accurate records.
• Assist in obtaining shift coverage when taking time off.
• Remain awake and alert while on duty to ensure responsiveness to staff, client, and facility needs.
• Transport clients as directed, following agency standards and laws for safe transport.
• Monitor agency vehicle use and report maintenance needs.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients as outlined in the Agency Code of Ethics.
• Express empathy regarding client situations as appropriate.
• Maintain telephone coverage during duty hours, answering calls professionally.
• Interact professionally with employees, visitors, guests, law enforcement, and safety personnel.
• Facilitate groups as assigned or directed.
• Obtain required annual training hours and attend staff meetings.
• Comply with all agency security standards, including procedures and electronic equipment/devices.
• Communicate essential information to staff and promote inter-departmental communication.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission Behavioral Health standards, rules, and regulations.
• Orient new residents to the program and oversee staff follow-through on resident care plans.
• Respond to complaints, concerns, and requests in a timely manner.
• Conduct satisfaction surveys from current and former residents and report findings to management.
• Represent Cherokee Indian Hospital Behavioral Health Services at community events and meetings.
• Interface with staff to provide and implement quality activities for residents using recovery-based interventions.
• Document all treatment and clinically significant events in the medical record as prescribed by policies.
• Follow all applicable privacy and confidentiality policies for patient records.
• Work with maintenance staff to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
• Participate in treatment program cross-training to assist with various programmatic needs.
• Operate in a support role for the Beauty for Ashes program and services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be male to ensure gender-specific job requirements.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification or ability to obtain certification in First Aid/CPR.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Ability to work independently with flexible hours.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specific experience working with Native Americans.
• Certified Peer Support Specialist.
• Work experience in a licensed residential setting.

• Ability to effectively use electronic medical records and software such as Microsoft Office.

• Knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices effective for recovery from substance abuse and psychiatric symptoms.
• Knowledge of medical, behavioral, and psychosocial problems and their treatment.
• Knowledge of governmental and private community resources.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies governing the program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and treatment.
• Significant knowledge of substance abuse, including diagnostic criteria, evaluation methods, and treatment approaches.
• Skill in establishing rapport with clients and families.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and community resources.
• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and plan work effectively.
• Ability to assess potential lethality of situations and respond accordingly.

Work Environment

• This position may require night and weekend shifts.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Duties can be mentally and emotionally stressful due to the complexity of tasks and client needs.
• Close mental concentration and attention to detail are required.
• Physical activities include mobility, sitting, reaching, bending, and delivering training for extended periods.
• Some physical exertion and stamina are required for transporting materials or traveling.
• Must maintain visual acuity and manual dexterity.
