About the role

Arthur Center is looking for a Residential Support Assistant (RSA) who leads with patience, compassion, and a genuine commitment to helping others build the skills and confidence to live well. In this role, you will provide direct support and oversight to residents with serious mental illness across our residential programs - walking alongside them in their daily lives, supporting their treatment goals, and helping them connect to the community in meaningful ways.

Shift Differentials & Pay Incentives

In addition to a competitive base pay, RSAs are eligible for the following shift differentials:

  • Weekend shift differential: An additional $3.00/hour for shifts worked between Friday 7:00 PM - Monday 7:00 AM.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities

Daily Living & Resident Support
Assist residents in learning and maintaining daily living activities including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, housekeeping, and transportation.
Support residents in developing healthy habits and routines such as meal planning, budgeting, exercise, and sleep hygiene.
Help residents develop coping skills to manage stress and mental health symptoms effectively.
Maintain ongoing awareness of the location and status of all residents during work hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

Community Integration & Treatment Plan Support
Support and transport individuals in accessing community resources and encourage participation in community-based activities to promote holistic well-being and community inclusion.
Maintain a working knowledge of each resident's treatment plan and assist with implementation of person-centered treatment plan goals.
Stay current with treatment team information by regularly reviewing organizational communications and attending required meetings.
Understand and apply person-centered service delivery, recovery principles, and recovery-oriented practices.

Medication Management & Safety
In cooperation with the residential nurse and with L1MA certification, provide medication management as prescribed and ensure proper documentation.
Report any medication-related concerns promptly and in accordance with policy.
Respond to emergency situations including mental health crises by providing immediate support and following policies and procedures to seek additional assistance as needed.
Maintain knowledge of health and safety procedures including safety codes; able to provide CPR, First Aid, and direct persons to safety in the event of an emergency.

  • General understanding of mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders.
  • Strong problem-solving, crisis management, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to remain steady under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comfortable with computers and able to document interventions accurately in an electronic health record system.
  • Contributes positively to workplace culture and the broader residential community.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to obtain Level 1 Medication Aid (L1MA), CPR, and First Aid certifications required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class E Missouri driver's license required if providing transportation.
  • Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities or psychiatric disorders preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is home-like in nature with lifting requirements generally up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be capable of providing physical intervention during behavioral health crises.
  • Able to perform CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) in emergency situations.
