Residential Specialist

About the role

The Residential Specialist/Direct Care works with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and psychiatric needs in community residential settings. Responsibilities include teaching and supporting independent living skills, promoting health, applying redirection and conflict resolution methods, documenting daily activities, and fostering a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support independent living skills including: personal care/hygiene, nutrition and food preparation, communication, social events and community celebrations, facilitating friendships, and more
• Promote health including taking clients to medical appointments, monitoring symptoms, administering medication, and following medical protocols
• Learn and apply redirection, conflict resolution, and verbal de-escalation methods, when needed
• Document daily activities and progress on goals

Requirements

• A positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with adults with disabilities
• A collaborative colleague eager to join a supportive and engaged team
• Strong interpersonal skills, an empathetic listener, and comfortable around clients with different needs and ability levels
• A flexible and adaptive approach to clients' day-to-day needs, using good judgment
• A clear verbal and written communicator and able to write daily notes
• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass CPR, Basic First Aid, and Medication Administration Program certification
• Ability to pass a national background check
• A valid driver's license

• In-person shifts at Newton locations
• Part-time and full-time shift schedules available
• $1,000 sign-on bonus for FULL-TIME, 30+ hour hires
• Paid Time Off: including up to 30 days PTO, (36 days after year 1)
• Mileage reimbursement
• Full Time, 30+ hour hires: Immediate eligibility for dental, vision, retirement plan; no waiting period
• Medical Insurance coverage is effective the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment
