Key Responsibilities
- Oversee facility operations and supervise and direct personnel during assigned shift.
- Supervise assigned personnel, including making and monitoring work assignments, evaluating performance, providing training, corrective instruction, assistance, and conducting individual and group meetings as needed.
- Aid in developing work schedules, distributing duties among personnel, and arranging for additional personnel as needed to ensure effective operation of all functional areas of the facility during assigned shift.
- Aid in coordinating youths’ appointments and transporting them, with intake/discharge procedures as needed, including receiving/releasing residents' personal property, searching for potential weapons and contraband, and completing forms as needed.
- Work cooperatively with other facility staff in sharing information regarding youth.
- Absorb compliance with state rules and regulations and facility policies and procedures, and ensure security of various facility areas as assigned, including conducting security checks and room searches, scheduling/overseeing periodic searches for contraband, monitoring electronic door locks and security communication devices, and monitoring residents' actions, activities, and visitations.
- Absorb compliance with behavior management system, including reviewing all disciplines issued to residents, reviewing grievances and arbitrating complaints as needed.
- Review and investigate written reports on all incidents regarding use of confinement, force, or restraint.
- Administer medication and maintain accurate documentation regarding prescription medication to youth.
- Regularly inspect housing units, identify problems/concerns, and take corrective action as directed.
- Maintain various detailed records as required, and prepare narrative reports as required or requested, such as maintenance, youth behavior, security, and staffing issues.
- Periodically assist with developing, coordinating, and conducting training sessions as requested.
- Respond to problems and emergencies from off-duty status, aiding other facility areas as needed.
- Assume specific responsibility for coordinating youth and staff in the facility during emergencies, such as fire and severe weather.
Requirements
- High School Diploma Required. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience working with children with serious emotional disturbances or substance abuse problems in a residential setting is required. Prior supervisory experience in related setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of and ability to assist in assessing youth regarding chemical dependency, substance abuse, and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
Skills
- Possession of or ability to obtain first aid/CPR;
- Effectively supervise, direct, monitor and appropriately interact with youth, and diplomatically deal with sensitive situations;
- Effective verbal and communication skills with co-workers, other stakeholder departments, Probation Officers, caseworkers, law enforcement and court personnel, juvenile residents, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Physical Demands
- Must be in good physical health, emotionally stable, and be able to move about the property.
- Must be able to participate in youth activities.
- Must be able to transport youth or staff.
- Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that data is attainable under the law.
- Must be able to pass evaluation of physical techniques and written certification exam.
Other
- Maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Must meet required state or local criminal background check requirements and be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have ability to occasionally work extended, evening and/or weekend hours.
