About the Role

The Residential Lead provides necessary supports for individuals with an intellectual and/or developmental disability to live as independently as possible within an AEDD residential environment. This role involves directing and supporting residential direct support professional staff to enable persons with disabilities to live, work, and enjoy recreational opportunities in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in program activities, chaperones group-sponsored trips, and escorts individuals on outings for shopping, recreation, medical, or dental services.
  • Completes grocery shopping, orders supplies, and determines needs for maintenance, repairs, and furnishings.
  • Communicates with other Direct Support Professional staff regarding daily activities, menus, and facility chores.
  • Assists residents with maintaining appropriate behavior and respect for others at home and in the community.
  • Supports residents in daily living skills as outlined in the annual Medicaid Waiver Person Centered Service Plan.
  • Increases residents' community awareness through outings such as shopping, social events, appointments, banking, and church.
  • Provides transportation via personal vehicle, ensuring compliance with AR State auto liability insurance and a valid AR driver's license.
  • Maintains records of money spent for residents and submits them to the Direct Care Supervisor.
  • Provides input and recommendations for residents during the Annual PCSP plan.
  • Observes and documents residents' daily progress on timesheets, behavior incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Completes weekly casenotes, medication, and travel documentation by 10:00 AM every Monday.
  • Supports residents in health, independent living skills, and activities of daily living, including:
    • Maintaining clean and organized bedrooms and shared spaces.
    • Keeping the yard attractive and clear of debris.
    • Ensuring appropriate use of the telephone and courteous behavior toward housemates.
    • Assisting with proper personal hygiene and use of household appliances (e.g., washer/dryer).
    • Mending and sewing for the house or residents.
  • Counsels residents in identifying and resolving social or other problems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successfully completed GED.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant, supervised work experience with a public health, human services, or community service agency or a minimum of two years of verifiable experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Valid Arkansas Driver's License and auto liability insurance.
  • Ability to compute basic math functions (e.g., adding, subtracting) and calculate figures such as discounts and interest.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • Travel by automobile is required, exposing the employee to changing weather conditions.
  • Local travel during the business day; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Safety Sensitive Position

This position is classified as safety-sensitive under the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. Employees must refrain from reporting to work or performing duties while impaired by alcohol or other drugs. Testing positive for metabolites of controlled substances is prohibited, regardless of medical marijuana registry status. Employees with a medical marijuana registry identification card must disclose this to the Human Resources Department.
