About the role
Vinfen is a nonprofit organization providing community-based services to individuals with various disabilities. As a Residential Counselor, you will support individuals with brain injury or behavioral conditions, helping them integrate into their communities and achieve independence.
Responsibilities
- Aids individuals in becoming fully integrated into their communities and developing friendships.
- Affords individuals access to community-based support and resources.
- Plans recreational and social activities to promote social inclusion and emotional well-being.
- Empowers and supports individuals to make choices, advocate for themselves, and participate in decision-making.
- Supports individuals in accessing assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance their independence.
- Encourages and supports individuals in securing, maintaining, and growing in work, volunteer, and community engagement opportunities.
- Assists individuals in becoming more independent, advocating for themselves, and defining their vision for living a good life.
- Maintains strong partnerships with families and other interested parties.
- Provides training and support to individuals in various areas including rehabilitation, behavioral interventions, and personal management skills.
- Facilitates the implementation of support plans by performing hands-on tasks and providing transportation.
- Monitors physical and emotional status, reports changes, manages individual funds, maintains records, collects data, documents incidents, and ensures home safety.
- Administers and documents medication according to the Medication Administration Plan (MAP).
- Communicates with relevant parties and participates in mandated training and staff meetings.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory policies and performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in a Human Services-related field preferred.
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, behavioral conditions, and/or brain injury strongly preferred.
- Strong time management and writing skills.
- At least 21 years old and hold a valid US driver's license for at least 6 months.
- Must be able to become CPR, First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment and MAP certified within 150 days of employment.
- Pass a CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, and driving record check.
