About the role

Vinfen is a nonprofit organization providing community-based services to individuals with various disabilities. The Residential Counselor role involves supporting people with brain injury or behavioral conditions, helping them integrate into their communities, and promoting their independence.

Responsibilities

  • Aids individuals in becoming fully integrated into their communities and fostering friendships.
  • Affords access to community-based support and resources.
  • Plans and implements recreational and social activities to enhance emotional well-being.
  • Empowers and supports individuals to make choices and advocate for themselves.
  • Supports individuals in accessing assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Encourages and supports individuals in securing, maintaining, and growing in work, volunteer, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Maintains records, assesses physical and emotional status, and ensures home safety.
  • Administers medication according to the Medication Administration Plan (MAP).
  • Communicates with relevant parties and participates in training and staff meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory policies and performs various administrative tasks.
  • Performs physical intervention and first aid in emergencies.
  • Serves as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission.
  • Develops, implements, and documents treatment plans, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services related field preferred.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, behavioral conditions, and/or brain injury strongly preferred.
  • Strong time management and writing skills.
  • At least 21 years old and hold a valid US drivers' license for at least 6 months.
  • Must be able to become CPR, First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment and MAP certified within 150 days of employment.
  • Must be able to pass a CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, and driving record check.
