Resident Director

Position Summary

The 12-month Resident Director (RD) manages Holland Princeton or South Hall. Responsibilities include programming, RA selection, housing assignments, and crisis response. The RD supports Leadership and Engagement operations, particularly summer programming for incoming students. Evening and weekend work is required. Compensation includes a furnished apartment and meal plan.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with RAs for support, guidance, and feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Collaborate with RAs to plan and implement educational, cultural, social, recreational, and service programming.
  • Mediate roommate conflicts and provide guidance on personal, academic, and community concerns.
  • Support students during emergencies and campus crises.
  • Assist in RA training programs and contribute to campus-wide programming.
  • Participate in summer initiatives to reduce summer melt and promote student retention.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Prior work experience in a residence life/housing facility at a college or university, required.

Physical Demands

  • Sit, use hands, talk, hear, reach, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Close vision, adjust focus.

  • Serve on College committees as assigned.
  • Maintain regular communication with colleagues.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Communicate major student and facility concerns to the Associate Director of Student Life.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
