About the role
Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson is looking for a hands-on leader who can develop and deliver Girl Scout programs throughout the year — from outdoor adventures and leadership activities to special events — and take the lead in operating our resident camp during the summer, overseeing staff, daily programming, camper safety, and the details that make camp run well.
Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging Girl Scout programs, outdoor experiences, leadership activities, and special events.
- Plan program schedules, budgets, supplies, and logistics to ensure programs are well organized and successfully delivered.
- Lead the daily operations of a resident camp during the summer, including camper experience, staff supervision, schedules, and programming.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal camp staff.
- Oversee camper safety, risk management, emergency procedures, and staff accountability.
- Ensure camp operations meet applicable ACA standards, New York State Department of Health requirements, and organizational policies.
- Manage camp budgets, supplies, facilities coordination, and operational logistics.
- Work with families, volunteers, community partners, and colleagues to support successful programs and camp operations.
Requirements
- At least three years of professional experience in a camp setting, including hands-on involvement in camp operations, program delivery, or seasonal staff leadership.
- Experience supervising, training, or leading staff, with the ability to provide direction, address challenges, and make sound decisions.
- Understanding of camper supervision, safety practices, risk management, and the demands of seasonal camp operations.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt to changing needs.
- Commitment to youth development, outdoor experiences, and inclusive programming.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to camp and program locations as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in resident or overnight camp operations.
- Previous experience as a camp director, assistant camp director, program director, or in a comparable camp leadership role.
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor education, youth development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Familiarity with ACA accreditation standards and New York State children's camp regulations.
Pay
- Annual salary: $55,000–$57,000.
- Housing: A one-bedroom house is available at a substantially reduced rental rate for nine months of the year.
- Summer housing: Rent is waived during the three-month summer camp season; onsite living is required during this period.
- Utilities included, except internet and telephone.
Benefits
- Help create meaningful experiences that build girls' confidence, leadership, and connection to the outdoors.
- Opportunity to shape programs throughout the year while taking the lead in a major seasonal camp operation.
