Reservoir Parks Keeper – Parks Steward (Variable Hours)

About the role

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join its team. The position involves maintaining public lands, resources, infrastructure, and facilities to ensure safe and healthy environments for plants and animals, as well as pleasant human experiences.

Responsibilities

• Maintains public lands under care
• Performs maintenance and repair work on facilities and properties
• Plants and cares for trees and vegetation
• Operates and maintains equipment
• Updates records concerning materials and equipment used
• Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures
• Performs work to complete special functions with all user groups and between city departments
• Performs snow and ice removal as needed
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be 18 years old at the time of hire
• Hiring rate: $18.00/hour
• Classification: VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee)
• No medical benefits provided
• Sick leave available in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act

Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• High School diploma or GED
• 6 months manual labor experience preferred
• CPR and First Aid preferred if employed in the Forestry division
• TCIA Chipper Operator Specialist & TCIA Ground Operations Specialist certificate preferred if employed in the Open Space division
• Knowledge of applicable safety practices and procedures
• Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and operating procedures utilized in the assigned functions
• Skills in vehicle operation, working effectively with employees and citizens, and maintaining a safe working environment
• Ability to operate equipment and tools of assigned function, perform manual labor for extended periods, communicate effectively both orally and in writing
