About the role

The Research Technician will support translational research within the field of comparative genetics, with a primary focus on feline and canine models. This role requires a blend of technical laboratory expertise and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Experimental Execution & Research Support
    Perform complex molecular and cell biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, Real-time PCR (qPCR), and protein analysis.
    Conduct laboratory procedures to test specific research hypotheses under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
    Assist in the development and refinement of new experimental methodologies.

  • Project Management & Data Analysis
    Manage the workflow of multiple concurrent research projects to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
    Analyze experimental data and collaborate with the research team to determine project next steps.
    Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental protocols and results.

  • Diagnostics Services & Quality Control
    Process diagnostic requests for the Cardiac Genetics Laboratory using PCR-based analysis.
    Oversee rigorous quality control (QC) standards to ensure the accuracy and integrity of diagnostic results.

  • Laboratory Operations & Compliance
    Manage general lab operations, including inventory procurement and stocking of supplies.
    Update and maintain laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance (QA) plans to ensure compliance with institutional standards.

Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of molecular and cell biology, including the ability to operate highly specialized laboratory equipment.

  • Research Autonomy & Collaboration: Proven ability to manage primary studies independently while effectively supporting collaborative team projects.

  • Data Integrity: Exceptional record-keeping and data management skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical skills applied to laboratory procedures and complex experimental results.

  • Professional Communication & IT: Excellent oral and written communication skills paired with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
