Research Technician II - Pathology (Hale Lab)

Scott Hale Lab in the Department of Pathology seeks a research technician to perform technical procedures in an immunology research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.

Responsibilities

• Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research.
• Performs laboratory tests and conducts experiments and procedures either independently or in a team setting with other researchers in the laboratory.
• Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing results.
• Works with research mice, manages research mouse colony, and collects animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Performs laboratory duties to clean and maintain equipment and ensures a safe work environment by monitoring and practicing safe laboratory procedures.
• Monitors and assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.

Work Environment

• Nearly continuously: Laboratory environment.
• Often: Exposure to animals, infectious disease, oils, and hazards (e.g., proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals).

Physical Requirements

• Nearly continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
• Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing and pipetting), walking, standing, sitting.
• Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of related experience.
• 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Preferences

• Ability to learn and apply laboratory techniques and skills, and perform experiments under the supervision and training of senior lab personnel.
• Experience and/or understanding of flow cytometry, RNA and DNA isolation/preparation, sequencing, PCR, and other cellular and molecular biology techniques is strongly preferred.
• Ability to generate accurate and detailed research reports and laboratory records.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and operate laboratory equipment.
• Excellent communication skills, ability to work with others, and a strong work ethic/enthusiasm for conducting research.

Pay

$10.92 - $21.81 per hour

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This is an onsite position at the Emma Eccles Jones Medical Research Building.
