Research Technician II - Neurology

About the role

The laboratory is a translational neuroscience program focusing on stroke, neural circuit function, aging, and recovery. The role involves assisting with research studies, experiments, and assays, including data collection, solution preparation, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
• Assists with studies of stroke and recovery, including animal handling, perioperative preparation, post-operative monitoring, and behavioral testing.
• Performs tissue collection and processing, histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and image acquisition.
• Performs techniques that may include viral-vector delivery, surgical preparation, and widefield optical (calcium) imaging.
• Contributes to the design of experimental protocols and research.
• Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Maintains inventory and orders lab supplies.
• Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
• Individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.

Education

• Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience.
