About the role

NLR's Advanced Building Equipment Research group has an opening for a research technician. This position supports hands-on research and development of building components and systems with a focus on new efficient and affordable technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up computers and controls for experiments
  • Maintains experiments, sensors, and laboratory facilities
  • Assists in designing, fabricating, and conducting experiments
  • Works with engineers and scientists to troubleshoot and maintain complex mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Maintains a safe operating environment in accordance with NLR’s policies and procedures
  • Supports field test work including limited travel

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience
  • Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience
  • Extensive knowledge in specialized focused support functions
  • A comprehensive acquaintance with and understanding of both general and detailed aspects of technical support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported
  • Strong research techniques and practices
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, project management and customer relations skills
  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date

Qualifications

Skills

  • Computer literacy including full fluency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with and commitment to security, health, and safety (ES&H)

Pay

  • Research Technician IV: $66,400 - $109,600
  • Research Technician III: $57,900 - $95,500
  • Research Technician V: $76,600 - $126,400

Schedule

  • Regular Hours Per Week: 40
