About the role
Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study spinal cord injury as directed in the Department of Neuroscience; independently conducts assigned experiments.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis
- Sorts and processes tissue and blood samples
- Tests and evaluates current procedures
- Performs routine procedures on lab animals
- Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
- Summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports
- Assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
- Conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature
- Oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities
- Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
- Sets up and operates laboratory equipment
- Monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
- 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
- 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree
- 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree
- Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required
