Research Science Officer (Associate Director for Science)

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Applying epidemiological principles and procedures to investigate, review, analyze, and determine the causes of scientific issues.
• Directing and advising on the development of public health research systems.
• Reviewing documents and other materials for accuracy, scientific merit, and adherence to agency policy.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
• Submit transcripts to support the education requirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, performing all the following duties:

Documenting Experience:

• Provide exact dates of each period of employment (from MM/YY to MM/YY) and the number of hours worked per week if part-time.
• Describe experience clearly and specifically; do not assume qualifications will be inferred.
• Federal employees must provide documentation (e.g., signed memorandum from supervisor, SF-50, or SF-52) for experience not part of their official series or grade level, including whether duties were performed full-time or part-time.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, or social organizations). Part-time experience must include the average number of hours worked per week and the beginning and ending dates.
