Research Scientist, Associate

About the Role

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) is seeking an Associate Research Scientist within the Aerosol group. The chosen candidate will evolve in a team-oriented environment where highly integrated research is performed to provide aerosol expertise to Lovelace programs, government agencies, pharmaceutical partners, and industrial entities. The individual will support a range of different programs that may include federal (or similar) funded programs and/or commercial programs with a wide range of different objectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead aerosol development, characterization, and aerosol engineering
• Apply and develop novel aerosol techniques
• Report and present data to sponsors and the broad scientific community
• Pursue recognition within the external scientific community through publications and scientific presentations
• Interface with multiple scientific staff in a fast-paced environment
• Maintain documentation at a high level

Qualifications

Requires a Ph.D in Aerosol Sciences, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a directly related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.

• Demonstrated experience in aerosols sciences with a focus on pharmaceutical and environmental aerosols
• Scientific background to support the characterization, development and analysis of complex aerosols and the application of these techniques to applied sciences
• Demonstrated ability to handle fundamental scientific tasks
• Published and/or presented original research in prior roles
• Research experience in a specific discipline
• Superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills
• High degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Excel, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed
• Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident in order to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB)
• This position will involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which will require vaccinations/immunizations
• Ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance is required
• Post-offer physical and background check are required

Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment
• Will operate standard laboratory equipment
• Frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions
• Occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
• Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator
• May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals
• May be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations
