Research Science Associate I, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering

About the role

The Research Science Associate I performs entry-level professional engineering and scientific research assignments related to a particular field of work. This role acquires basic skills to perform routine tasks with little autonomy, working under close supervision or clearly defined procedures. This is a grant-funded position with an expected end date of April 30, 2027, contingent upon availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Responsibilities

• Performs professional research and engineering assignments, including conducting experiments, gathering and analyzing data and samples, setting up and operating equipment, and inspecting minor fabrication, erection, or assembly for conformance to specifications.
• Performs specified phases of research projects, including making and recording observations and measurements, compiling data, processing paperwork, maintaining lab accounts, writing technical reports, and assisting in the writing and editing of grants.
• Trains incoming and existing students on experimental procedures and edits students’ papers prior to submission for journals or class.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, Vocational Training, or Apprenticeship in a related field.
• One (1) year of related work experience.
• Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

• Clinical Trials Principles, Methodology, and Procedures
• Up-to-date knowledge of statistics and reporting

Working Conditions

• Usual laboratory or office conditions; may require working with hazardous equipment or materials.
• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
• Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary based on departmental needs.

Physical Demands

• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Position is primarily on-campus; travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.

Pay

Up to $36,800 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
